                      | | The
James Watt Institute for High Value Manufacturing incorporates
both the existing members of the HW-IMRC, and in addition
the 20+ additional independent academic colleagues across
4 Schools, who are currently not part of the IMRC.
HWU has recruited a significant group of researchers whose
areas of expertise align very well with the roadmap directions
defined by the HW-IMRC for future opportunities for strong
                        science-based engineering/technology destined to underpin
new industrial manufacturing opportunities. Coupled with
other strong research groups (not included in the original
HW-IMRC selection for largely administrative reasons),
the opportunity exists to grow the team of independent
PIs working in a coherent fashion on relevant research
by greater than a factor of three, to more than 20 independent
                        principal investigators.

Having assessed these and other related factors, the HW-IMRC
Management Group, with enthusiastic support of the (external)
Steering Committee, conceived a plan for growth in HWU
manufacturing research based on the creation of a new
pan-university Research Institute focused on promoting
internationally-leading research in topics and technologies
that underpin high value manufacturing industry. The new
Institute, which has been designated the James Watt Institute
for High Value Manufacturing incorporates both the existing
members of the HW-IMRC, and in addition the 20+ additional
independent academic colleagues across 4 Schools, who
are currently not part of the IMRC.

The HW-IMRC Steering Committee have agreed to act as Steering
Committee for the James Watt Institute.
