The vision of the
Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (HW-IMRC)
at Heriot-Watt University is to be a leading international
provider of advanced manufacture-related research,
focused on science-based engineering and technology
that underpin the development of novel high value-added
manufacturing technologies, processes and products,
addressing the requirements of European, UK and
regional industries. It is intrinsically interdisciplinary,
drawing on the broad expanse of research at Heriot-Watt
University, collectively aiming to deliver innovative
solutions for highly customised and high IP content
products that enable European and UK Manufacturers
to compete in an environment of increased global
competition, environmental concern, sustainability
and regulation, where access to knowledge, skills
and IP determine where manufacturing is located.
The three main thematic strands of the HW-IMRC
research portfolio are concentrated in the following
areas:
- Digital Tools (DT)
- Microsystems for Manufacture (MM)
- Photonics-based Manufacturing (PM)
The Heriot-Watt Innovative Manufacturing Research
Centre is embedded within the broader pan-university
James Watt Institute for High Value Manufacturing
- sharing its vision, values and objectives.
Mission
Our mission is to deliver high impact research in
innovative manufacturing technologies based on the
multidisciplinary technology resources across Heriot-Watt
University as well as the Edinburgh Research Partnership
(within the Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering),
the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance, our
industrial partners and beyond. |
